Sherando Lake is a National Forest campground just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Tina was happy to get a nice shady site on the creek with electric hook-up.
There are two small lakes here. Tina is heading to the smaller Upper Lake via the trail/steps to the top of the dam.
Upper Sherando Lake. There is a hiking trail around the perimeter. This is primarily a fishing lake which is stocked with brook trout.
Mountain Laurel blooming along the trail.
This is where puppy Lark had his first "swim"?

Creek flowing into Upper Sherando lake.
One of several old beaver dams and ponds along the creek on this side of the lake. They don't seem to be currently active.
Colorful fungi.
The Lower Lake is a little larger and good for kayaking, swimming, and fishing. We came here for a kayak fix.
Tina is all smiles.
The water is clear enough to see the fish.
Turtle and mountain laurel.
And a shark! I had to rescue this blue shark that was floating away from the swim area.
Water falling down the steep sides of the lake near the dam.
Beyond the dam you can see some of the rock scree on the mountainside.
Two Hornbeck boats. Notice I also rescued a beach ball and tennis ball around the lake.
There is a small island in the lake. Kids swim out from the beach to explore the island. Watch out for goose poop if you are barefoot.
We also hiked another trail around this lake. Then back to the mountains to drive the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park.
